Jim Clark Commorative Plaque in cast bronze

The Jim Clark Commemorative Plaque

The Chirnside Common Good Association commissioned a portrait of their local hero, the great F1 champion Jim Clark, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of his death on track at Hockenhiem, 1968. A true genius with a win ratio rarely matched throughout history, while also a humble and quietly spoken man preferring to be known simply as a crofter from rural Scotland.

The commission required a pattern in two parts, including a resin portrait and a back-plate with text. These are combined here and finished in white chalk spray.

The original portrait was sculpted in fresh clay, seen here below in early development.
